iOS Users: Need Some Wallpapers?

Hello, folks!

I’m please to announce the (very early) release of the new Zomgrei Wallpapers site! Currently it’s just a few iPhone-sized wallpapers, but I feel like there’s no reliable resources to get mobile device wallpapers in one go. So, the end goal is to cover iPhone, iPad, Android phone and tablet devices.

New add-on for Deus Ex: Human Revolution to include redesigned boss fights

With Deus Ex: Human Revolution the boss battles were outsourced, which meant that while the rest of the game put a big emphasis on the stealth of the player, the boss fights required more force and brutality. If this was not how a player had been playing the game up to that moment, it may throw them off and ultimately result in defeat. This minor yet significant problem is set to be rectified with the new add-on, Missing Link.

The game developers Eidos Montreal plan to design the boss fights themselves, thus making sure that they are in keeping with the tone of the rest of the game. This will be good news for fans, who will no doubt be waiting with baited breath for the new release, perhaps spending their time playing Deus Ex: Human Revolution, or surfing the internet and checking out the PartyPoker site. When it comes out in October, there is set to be a lot of hype and many fans will be planning to purchase the new add-on

This new expansion will carry on the idea from the rest of the game that players do not have to kill. They will have the option to defeat the boss in a take-down that is not lethal. It will also be possible to kill him, but from afar and even without him actually seeing the player.

Missing Link will feature a five-hour story that sees Adam Jenson on a freighter. He will have no weapons or augmentations and will be at the mercy of Belltower. Consequently, Adam will have to move through the ship in order to reclaim his upgrades. He will have to deal with many enemies including bosses, and will also have to discover why he is there.

Battlefield 3 Public Beta Coming Soon

It’s coming! The Battlefield 3 public beta is coming very soon to a platform near you!

According to the Battlefield 3 blog and the Battlefield 3 site, the beta will be available September 29th to all players on the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3! Get ready to download and play the beta and see what you think.

I had the opportunity to try the alpha version on my PC and it was a good time (if not a little rough around the edges – but it was an alpha!). I can’t wait to see the more polished beta and face the differences between alpha and beta.

Haven’t You Seen Any Zombie Movies?

Recently, I was thinking about zombies. This is fairly typical for me, since I’m a zombie fan, especially when it comes to video games. However, my most recent train of thought intrigued me enough to post it here on my blog.

I have been knee-deep in Dead Island, and of course smattering in Left4Dead (1/2) and Dead Rising (1/2) in along with this. I noticed that in these games, no one sees it coming, is prepared for, or even knows what the issue is or what the “creatures” are. What I fail to understand is why have the main characters (or side characters, for that matter) never, ever seen a single zombie movie? Do they just not exist in their universe? Is it glazed over in a suspension of disbelief moment?

I find it exceedingly difficult to come to the conclusion that in Dead Rising, none of the protagonists have ever seen a flipping zombie movie before. In a world that includes Mega Man, you’d think that – since it shares such similarity with this world as having Capcom, makers of Resident Evil – there would be such a thing as a zombie movie or even video game.

This forced me to come up with a video game idea of my own: a game starring a zombie movie geek who know one believes when he says a zombie apocalypse is coming, but then it happens.

Meh, it could go anywhere, but keep in mind, this would be the most realistic zombie game yet, since as it stands no one in their right mind can believe what’s happening or even why it’s happening as if the idea of a zombie has never been presented.

Let’s just label this as me posting outside of my right mind and in my zombie frame of mind.

So I promised myself that with this iteration of Zomgrei, I’d keep it updated with all the awesome geeky stuff in the universe. I employed the services of the wonderfully talented and intelligent (and geeky!) Miah. She even updated after I stopped. But then it just died altogether.

So, I feel badly for letting my blog go to the wayside again. So I’ve decided that for better or worse, I will update. If not weekly, but occasionally. If not to satiate you, but to satisfy myself. I tire of letting project slip past and I want one to actually do something useful. So here I am – time to do it.

I hope those of you who stumble upon this blog will come to see that it is and always has been a lesson in failure. If you do not keep at something, it will definitely become a waste of space.

So here I am, updating. Finally. And it shall not be the last. In fact, I hope for it to keep this blog alive, if not for that much longer.

Emperor Penguins = The Enterprise?

Apparently, Emperor Penguins are able to move power from “the shields to the warp core” – an analogy given by io9′s Tim Berribeau to explain the Emperor Penguin’s ability to be under water for 20 minutes at a time without running out of oxygen when their oxygen storage is significantly less than that time.

The penguins can actually slow their bodily functions to a state like suspended animation – slowed heart rate and forgo the use of nonessential organs – while remaining “animated”. They use lactate which builds up to enable anaerobic metabolism, which is metabolism without using oxygen, to fuel their muscles.

The coolest part, however, is that they have complete control over whether they want to use this or not.
